Church History

On Sunday, August 17, 1997, United Christian Fellowship Church International (UCFCI) held its first service in the auditorium of Knox Middle School in Salisbury, North Carolina. Fifty people were in attendance, and seven committed to membership when the call was given. It all began with God giving our founding pastor, Sonya T. Ellerbe, a vision and command to begin a ministry and raise up a select sheep for the service of His kingdom.

Before the church officially began God first led Pastor Ellerbe to begin a weekly Bible study. Prior to beginning Bible study, Pastor Ellerbe began looking at a church building listed for sale. Pastor Ellerbe went to view the property by faith, believing the Word of the Lord in Joshua 1:3, “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you”. Shortly thereafter, God gave Pastor Ellerbe favor with Dr. Lee, pastor of Salisbury Christian Fellowship, the occupants of the church building, to begin weekly Bible study in their fellowship hall.

While conducting Bible study at Salisbury Christian Fellowship Church, she learned that the church was taken off the market and the congregation did not plan on moving. As time passed, the ministry began at Knox Middle School and was doing well. Suddenly, plans changed. The pastor of Salisbury Christian Fellowship Church announced their decision to move from their present facility and break ground for a new facility. In November of 1997 United Christian Fellowship Church International moved into its present location at 118 Miller Chapel Road, Salisbury, North Carolina.

God has added, and God has pruned, but it proves that His hand is upon this ministry. God has miraculously blessed UCFCI from its conception and continues to do as the Kingdom of God is advanced through this local assembly. This is only the beginning of great things He has for the destiny of United Christian Fellowship Church International. To God be the Glory!
